New note about Soil Carbon Sequestration by Bill Gates

"We should discuss soil as much as we talk about coal"

A new article has been published on "Gatesnote", the blog of Bill Gates, on March 26th, 2019. In this note, the American investor highlights the importance of soil carbon sequestration for fighting climate change, putting the soil organic carbon solution at the same level as the renewables energies, much more anchored in collective thinking.

"De-carbonizing the way we generate electricity would be a huge step, but it won’t be enough if we don’t reach zero net emissions from every sector of the economy [...] That includes the agriculture, forestry, and land use sector, which is responsible for 24 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions"

Bill Gates mentioned the multiple advantages of putting and storing carbon on agricultural soils as well as some examples of "creative solutions to tackle the problem."

This note makes part of a series of articles published on his page concerning "The 75% problem" referring to the multiple greenhouse gas emissions sources other than fossil fuels and how to decrease their carbon footprint.
